Albert Lamar Wheeler Jr. | News, Sports, Jobs
Albert Lamar Wheeler Jr., 39, who we all knew and loved as Chip, passed away on December 28, 2021.
Born May 27, 1982 in Palm Beach, Florida, he moved to Lake Placid, New York in 1988.
He was the husband of Mirra (Bickford) Wheeler, whom he married on October 2, 2020. He was the son of Albert and Kristina (Hinkel) Wheeler and the beloved brother of Weston Wheeler.
Chip graduated from Northwood School in Lake Placid. He continued his studies at Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Florida to pursue his golfing career. He later went to Penn State to receive the credits he needed to earn the title of his dreams of Class A Superintendent through the GCSSA (Golf Course Superintendent Association of America).
As a child, Chip started his career in the golf industry at the Lake Placid Club and never stopped from there. He has worked at the Saranac Inn Golf Club for over 20 years, loving every minute, and part of his heart will always be there. In 2020, Chip had the opportunity to team up with two of his best friends to fulfill the lifelong dream of owning and operating a golf course, the Chili Country Club, located in Rochester, New York.
Chip loved to travel and always took the opportunity to attend a live concert; Billy Joel was a first choice. He was extremely loyal and loved being with his friends and family, whether at Camp Taboo (aka CAFAF), snowmobiling, playing golf, having a drink at the Cottage or Zig Zags with Big Al, dining with Kris, spend some one-on-one time with Wes or in his truck with Rory. There was nowhere he was happier than with his wife, Mirra, of whom he was incredibly proud, and his love for her was evident to everyone. Chip’s giant smile will be missed by all of us, and it has never been wider than in the past eight years with Mirra. Anyone who knew and loved Chip knew he had the biggest heart and shared it with everyone and wherever he could.
Chip is survived by his wife, Mirra Wheeler; parents Al and Kris Wheeler; Brother Wes Wheeler; sister-in-law Shannon (Abbott); nephew Lochlan; stepmother and stepfather, Alice and Steve Bickford; brother-in-law Evan; aunt and uncle, Connie and Peter Geisler; cousin Peter Geisler Jr., his wife Soraya and their daughters, Jasmine and Violet; and uncle and aunt Tom and Lu Hinkel and cousins Cameron, Keefer and Connor.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chip’s name to the Adirondack GCSA scholarship, c / o Joe DeForest, 30 Station St., Lake Placid, NY 12946. A golf scholarship in Chip’s name will be launched for students local.
Call hours will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, January 3 at the MB Clark, Inc., Funeral Home in Lake Placid. For those who cannot attend call hours, the family are planning to host another celebration of life this summer.
