Community Recovery Events Receive Additional Funding Through Going Forward Grants – News Of The Area

The InspireU Film and Digital Storytelling project comes to life.

The NAMBUCCA Valley Council has announced successful applicants for its “Moving Forward” community grants program, funded by the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund (BCRRF).

“A wide range of nominations have been received, and the Council is confident that these community recovery events will lift our spirits and see the Nambucca Valley dance, roll, chat, connect and more until 2022,” said Mayor Cr Rhonda Hoban OAM.

“After drought, fires, Covid and floods, our programming of community events will help boost the local economy and bring us together, stronger for the future.”

One of the grant recipients, Uniting – Children, Youth and Families based in Nambucca Heads, is using the funds to bring the InspireU Film and Digital Storytelling project to life.

Project leaders Cass Wilson and Molly Langley have heard many reasons over the past two years why our young people in Nambucca may not reach their full potential and thrive.

Cass told News Of The Area: “A strong theme that has emerged from community conversations is that our young people want to hear and see more local success stories from those who have faced the same obstacles and difficulties but have been successful. .

“They wanted to have bigger hopes and dreams, and to be shown that anything is possible, even though you grew up here in the valley.”

This inspired Cass and Molly to start co-designing with young people, and those who are important to them, a film and series featuring ten local young people who could share their stories of resilience and strength.

The film will be screened later this year but will become an important resource for years to come, organizers say.
