Cuba, COVID-19 and the end of the American blockade

For over 60 years, the United States effectively imprisoned the country of Cuba through illegal political intervention and economic warfare. And yet, in the face of continued economic strangulation and political vilification, the socialist republic has survived. Recently, the Interfaith Foundation for Community Organizing (IFCO) and Pastors for Peace hosted a virtual meeting with Alejandro García del Toro, second head of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Washington DC, to discuss the ongoing US blockade of Cuba and Cuba’s handling of COVID. -19 pandemic. In this episode of Shake the bars, we explore the main takeaways from the virtual meeting and highlight excerpts from some of the speeches given by Ambassador García del Toro, Gail Walker (IFCO Executive Director) and Samira Addrey (Graduate of the School Latin American Medicine from Cuba).
