Gladys Knight to perform on December 16 at Rhythm City Casino, Davenport
The rescheduled QC concert of the legendary Gladys Knight – known as “The Empress of the Soul” – will take place on December 16 at 8 p.m. at the Rhythm City Casino Resort Event Center, 7077 Elmore Ave., Davenport.
The 77-year-old seven-time Grammy winner (Atlanta, Georgia native) has enjoyed No.1 hits in pop, gospel, R&B and adult contemporary, and has triumphed in film , on television and live.
Debuting in 1960, singing the lead role at just 16, Gladys Knight & The Pips scored numerous Top 20 hits, including “Every Beat of My Heart”, “Letter Full of Tears”, “I Heard it Through the Grapevine ”and“ If I Were Your Woman ”, setting the stage for an incredible run in the mid-1970s, with certified Top 10 singles like“ Nither One of Us (Wants to be the First to Say Goodbye) “I have to use my imagination,” “Best thing that ever happened to me,” and hit # 1 “Midnight Train to Georgia,” according to Knight’s biography.
In total, Knight has recorded over 38 albums over the years, including four solo albums over the past two decades: “Good Woman” (1991); “Just for you” (1994); the inspiring “Many Different Roads” (1999); and “Finally” (2001).
A humanitarian and philanthropist, Knight has dedicated herself to a variety of worthy causes, including the American Diabetes Association – for which she is a national spokesperson, the American Cancer Society, the Minority AIDS Project, amFAR and Crisis Intervention, and The Boys and Girls Club. She has also been honored by many organizations including the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), B’Nai Brith, and recently received the BET Award of Excellence for all of her achievements.
