How to use Purdue’s new, more interactive college calendar
Purdue University introduces the brand entirely Purdue University Events Calendar which comes with features to help the campus organize and promote events while presenting them in a new and meaningful way.
Purdue partners with software platform developer Localist on the new university calendar.
Here we highlight how the campus community, visitors, and the general public can use the calendar to organize personal events, submit events of general interest, and interact regularly with its more robust features.
What’s new with the Purdue Events Calendar?
Event seekers can browse events that interest them and get essential details about events they’ve heard about elsewhere. Additionally, they can create an account in the system and follow campus departments, organizations, and locations to keep up to date with happenings. A personal “My Calendar” dashboard can be created, highlighting trends and upcoming events. Users can also create an events widget that can be embedded on any web page to aid in promotional efforts.
Does the calendar allow you to customize the events that interest you?
Through a summary, the new calendar offers a customizable feature allowing users to create a profile on the site, allowing them to receive a personalized list of weekly events via email. Summaries can be configured to match your preferences for upcoming events. Choose the day of the week and your inbox will contain timely upcoming events that are of particular interest to you. Digests are also a great way to stay informed and engaged in your community without having to proactively visit the site.
How are events published?
Users can submit events to the Purdue Campus Calendar once they register through boiler key. A user must be logged in to click the event submit button. Only events sponsored or organized by or in conjunction with a Purdue campus unit, college, department, or student organization may be submitted to the Purdue calendar.
Remember: adding an event to the calendar does not schedule your space. You still need to get the proper space and time approvals before you can add it to the calendar. Use this link to reserve space for your event and book rooms at the Union Club Hotel.
Can you give examples of eligible and non-eligible events?
- Examples of eligible activities
- Special academic lectures or guest lectures open to the campus community.
- Job fairs on campus or sponsored by a campus unit or sanctioned student organization.
- Admissions events and information sessions.
- Athletics and club sporting events.
Department open house.
- Musical and theatrical performances.
- Examples of ineligible activities
- Non-university social gatherings.
- Closed meetings of offices/departments/organizations/committees.
- Sales or special events by local businesses.
- Non-college concerts, shows, and sporting events not of interest to the Purdue community.
Who is in charge of managing event publications?
Each Purdue unit has designated a calendar administrator who will manage that department’s event calendar. The admin will post events for their department and approve or deny events that have been submitted to be displayed on the department calendar. Users should email [email protected] to request permission to gain administrative access to your unit’s calendar.
What guidelines are in place for posting events?
It is recommended that you publish your event as soon as possible, but no later than one week before the event. Posts are approved by the admin, who will review pending items several times a week. The campus calendar can also be used as a planning resource. Postings will be limited to events sponsored or co-sponsored by organizations or departments affiliated with Purdue, except in special circumstances. The calendar should not be used to submit a job offer or other non-event advertising.
What kind of details are needed with a post?
The event submission form must include the event name, event description, time, date and location. Event names should use uppercase sentences and event descriptions should be full sentences. Most campus locations are in the system. Please use existing locations where possible. Events can be recurring. Events default to live (in-person) events, but there are options for online and hybrid events.
What if there is an admission fee for an event?
Ticketing and/or registration information may form part of a registration. The form allows you to add ticket prices with a link to the purchase process. To register for free events, leave the price blank and provide a registration link.
Can authors use or upload an image to accompany their event?
Yes. Here are some image recommendations:
- JPG, PNG or GIF.
- Only landscape and rectangular orientation.
- Minimum size: 940 x 557 pixels.
- Maximum size: 1920 pixels wide.
- Recommended: 1080 pixels wide.
