Lansing Residents Celebrate Michigan Chicken Wing Festival

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) — Chicken lovers were treated to an event all weekend at Michigan’s annual Chicken Wing Festival.

Residents were able to satisfy the appetite for a mouth-watering event that happened over Labor Day weekend 2022. Not only did they have dozens of flavors, but they also had treats, games for all family and live music.

Founder Shirley Carter-Powell said the event was more about people than food.

“It wasn’t just about chicken wings, it’s an opportunity for other vendors to show off their cooking skills and food,” Carter-Powell said.

Part of the profits raised during the event will benefit Foundation Against All Oddswhich is a non-profit organization that supports cancer survivors.

Carter-Powell said the money would be put back into the community.

“We provide families, people with disabilities, those in shelters, the homeless, those on low incomes, with everything from clothing to personal care items,” Carter-Powell said.

As for the people behind the scenes like the cooks and the vendors, they said their favorite part was bringing people together.

“Just the different people, the different cultures that you know, just the way people are, the different people in general,” Tender Bonez co-owner Monique Stevenson said.

In 2022, the Wing Festival had 22 assorted flavors, a beer and wine tent, and dunk tanks for the kids. Although there were no vegan wings this year, they did provide vegetarian options.
