McDowell Encourages Residents To ‘Come Together’ For Active County-wide Community Event
McDowell County officials are encouraging residents to get outside and be active with the McDowell Moves 2021 walk / hike event.
Residents who wish to participate should simply hike a trail, walk downtown or just down the block, anywhere in McDowell County, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 16.
The organizers are stressing, this is not a race! Just a simple, free, fun and easy event designed to celebrate and encourage the community to come together and be active after more than a year of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Participants are encouraged to bring the whole neighborhood, your family or just yourself for the community development activity.
There will be guided hikes in the Old Fort and Lake James, or you can follow your own path downtown, or in your own neighborhood, with the maps provided online at www.mcdowelltrails.org.
The first 150 registered adult participants, aged 16 or older, will receive a McDowell Moves 2021 t-shirt absolutely free.
Visit www.mcdowelltrails.org for more information and to register today!
This event is organized by the McDowell Trails Association and the Corpening Memorial YMCA in association with the AARP NC Mountain Region, McDowell Senior Center, West Marion Community Forum, Marion East Community Forum, Old Fort Community Forum, Lake James State Park, the Marion Business Association and McDowell Chamber of Commerce to promote an active lifestyle and the many trails and outdoor amenities in McDowell County.
