Pet walk to benefit autism research | News, Sports, Jobs
For the sixth time, Armand Petri’s Student Record Label class at the State University of New York at Fredonia will be hosting their Lend a Paw for Autism dog walk on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The walk starts at the Clock Tower on Symphony Road and ends at Dods Grove. Mads Fox, a music industry major who follows Petri’s class, said all the money will go to the Buffalo Autism Research Institute.
“We just want to raise funds for the Institute”, said Fox. “That’s our main goal. We don’t care about our own profits.
Fox said the students in the class are responsible for marketing the event, which will also feature student artists who are part of the student label. Fox has been working this event for the first year and is excited to both gain experience and raise money for a worthy cause.
“Given that I’m an inexperienced music industry specialist, it’s eye-opening to see how it all works,” said Fox. “And the organization is great, most of the time people like to give money to organizations that aren’t.”
As part of organizing the event, Fox said the students had to organize the performances, food, and other parties, and Fox went the extra mile by even making sure there were extra dogs on hand for people to walk in if they want. .
“I contacted WNY Heroes, which brings service dogs for people who don’t have a dog to walk,” said Fox. “It felt like a great opportunity.”
Registration for the dogs costs $10, all of which goes to the charity as a donation, and there are even options available for those wishing to participate. For those who want to participate but can’t make it for the day, there is an online dog walking event that costs $5, only requiring you to submit a photo of the dog. And if people have other pets, they aren’t excluded either.
“Everyone is welcome and all pets are welcome” said Fox. “We will welcome all kinds of dogs and we will take everything you have. If you want to put a cat or lizard on a leash, go for it. We are very open and just want people to come.
